Winter Fun

Posted on February 17, 2023 at 3:35 PM

Winter is a hard time for a Plein Air painter in the Canadian winter...but I do find a way around it by drawing or painting from inside my car. I was out a few days ago and did a watercolour of the Entrance at Wilson's Point....not a soul around and the peace and quiet was precious...the painting can be viewed in my Watercolours albumn.
...a week before that I went to Ritchie Wharf Park

View Through The Boughs

Posted on August 18, 2022 at 11:15 AM

View Through The Boughs is 9 X 12 studio oil painting from a photograph I'd taken on Beaubears Island... to me it appeared to be like a doorway to heaven. Being choosen as one of 10 artists to be an Artist in Residence for a week on the island this summer of 2022 was a thrill.I've spend many hours there to sketch and paint to have works to show and sell at the Beaubears Interpretive Center at the end of my week. (August 21 - 27)

Cerulean House with Daffodils

Posted on May 19, 2022 at 3:30 PM

I purchased a new plain air kit by Guriella Painter...for the summer..something small and light that I can take anywhere. It is really only good for tiny 5 X 7 in. work but I think I'll get great use out of it. I've done 3 paintings with it so far. You can find them in the Oils Albumn...
Hidden Gem is a scene on a dead end road where houses were removed for the construction of the Miramichi Bridge. I loved the ruggedness of the scene.

A successful commission

Posted on April 23, 2022 at 2:45 PM

I recently worked with a delightful lady from the Ottawa area who commissioned me to paint an historic home on the Miramichi where she lived as a young girl. Several emails were exchanged until I got the idea of what she had in mind.
The home as it stands today had the original front veranda area closed in...so with photos she provided I was able to picture the home in it's original state....and also add the apple tree that she recalled...plus the bench seat with her* as a girl sitting th...

One Week 100 People FaceBook Group Project

Posted on March 13, 2022 at 2:50 PM

Every March a group I belong to on FaceBook ( One Week 100 People ) presents a sketch challange of drawing 100 people in one week.
instead of going for the 100 people, I set my own challenge ..This year it was to study the works of Vincent Van Gogh. I began a few days before the challenge date by warming up with sketches from my news feeds that were full of photos from the war inflicted on Ukraine by Russia.

The following photos are what I accomplished during the warm-up and t...

Trail Gates - Wilson's Point

Posted on November 12, 2021 at 1:20 PM

As Artist in Residence for Wilson's Point Historic Site and lover of this particular Miramichi area, I often do paintings there on location or from my photographs. I began Trail Gates from a photo and did a value sketch with a 2B pencil in a simple sketchbook and went from there to painting on 6 X 6 in. gallery wrap canvas. The actual painting began with a simple value painting with thinned paint. When it was dry I began painting in color in thicker paint. ...here's some photos.. The complete...
